About the position
The volunteer position with Signature Hospice focuses on providing companionship and support to patients and families facing terminal illnesses in the Eugene/Springfield community. Volunteers will undergo training to prepare them for various supportive roles, including engaging in conversations, sharing hobbies, and assisting with legacy projects. This role emphasizes the importance of compassion and presence in enhancing the quality of life for patients during their end-of-life transition.
Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and support to patients and families facing terminal illnesses.
- Engage in activities such as walking, listening to stories, and playing games.
- Assist with writing letters, reading books aloud, and playing music.
- Help patients with bucket list items and legacy projects.
- Share special interests or hobbies with patients, such as music or crafts.
Requirements
- Compassionate and caring demeanor.
- Ability to listen and engage with patients and families.
- Willingness to undergo training and adhere to safety protocols.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in volunteer work or caregiving.
