About the position

MiraCosta College is seeking applications to build a pool of part-time instructors for the Hotel/Motel Services Associate program for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position is temporary and will involve teaching courses at various locations, including days, evenings, and weekends, depending on the needs of the college. The department chairperson or designee will review applications only when vacancies arise. Instructors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility, and applications will remain valid until June 30, 2025. After this date, a new posting will be made, and interested candidates will need to reapply. The role requires instructors to plan, organize, and teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and educational standards. Instructors will provide feedback and guidance to students, evaluate their performance, and maintain accurate records of student progress. The position also involves using instructional technologies to enhance student learning and participating in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes. Instructors are expected to maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate student needs and contribute to a collegial environment by collaborating with other faculty and participating in campus activities. Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and develop instructional materials including presentations, lectures, and assignments.
  • Teach courses utilizing sound pedagogical methods and instructional strategies to meet learning objectives.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments and evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • Be available to students for questions and assistance, maintaining a flexible schedule to meet their needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete course records as required by law and district policies.
  • Contribute to maintaining a collegial environment and collaborate with department chairs and other faculty.
  • Attend faculty and staff meetings and participate in activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college.
  • Stay current in academic or program discipline, including maintaining licensure and continuing education requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in teaching or instructional roles.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies, including Blackboard and other online learning platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with diverse student populations and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of state education codes and curriculum requirements.
