About the position

The Hourly Production Lead plays a crucial role in supporting production team leadership to achieve safety, quality, and production goals in a unionized veneer and plywood manufacturing facility. This position involves training, leading production teams in the absence of supervisors, and participating in various initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. The role requires flexibility to work on different shifts, including weekends and holidays, in a 24/7 operating environment.

Responsibilities

  • Role model all standards/processes and on-the-job behavior by living core principles of integrity, fairness, and creating a positive, inclusive work environment.
  • Support production leadership to provide management and oversight of hourly production employees.
  • Provide coverage for production shift supervisors during vacations and other absences.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient execution of work by teams.
  • Ensure job and safety rules are understood and followed by all employees.
  • Participate in incident investigations and follow-up activities.
  • Assign work and evaluate job performance.
  • Support, coach, and provide timely feedback and direction to associates.
  • Participate in and/or lead unit initiatives and other assignments as required.
  • Understand the process flow and provide solutions to issues.
  • Contribute to other mill functions, such as safety, environmental, or LEAN initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Good planning, organizational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team building capabilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and other windows-based programs.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and be ambulatory for the majority of an assigned 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend the entire manufacturing process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, particularly in Forestry, Business Administration, Finance, Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Two years previous key leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, or minimum of three years stable work history.
  • Experience in routine manufacturing concepts such as housekeeping, ergonomics, and labor efficiency.
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing.
  • Experience with LEAN processes.
