About the position

The HR Benefits Manager is responsible for designing, evaluating, and modifying employee benefits policies to ensure they are competitive, cost-effective, and compliant with legal requirements. This role involves overseeing various aspects of employee benefits, including 401k management, leave programs, and compliance with government regulations. The manager will also lead a team, participate in vendor negotiations, and enhance employee communication regarding benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, and modify benefits policies to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
  • Oversee management of workers compensation cases in coordination with the Leave Specialist.
  • Monitor benefit and leave reporting, collecting and analyzing data for stakeholders.
  • Manage all aspects of the 401k and nonqualified deferred compensation, including audits and compliance.
  • Oversee leave management programs, including short-term and long-term disability and FMLA.
  • Administer and review employee benefit programs, especially during mergers and acquisitions.
  • Participate in due diligence for employee benefit programs and provide recommendations.
  • Lead annual renewal negotiations, vendor RFPs, and the Open Enrollment process.
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA and ACA reporting requirements.
  • Formulate policies and procedures for benefits and risk management.
  • Direct communication strategies for benefits information to employees.
  • Identify and implement benefits to enhance employee quality of life.
  • Mediate between benefits providers and employees regarding benefits-related inquiries.
  • Develop methods to improve benefits policies and recommend changes to management.
  • Manage benefit interfaces into UKG for efficiency and communication processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in benefits management and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, ACA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Experience with 401k and nonqualified deferred compensation management.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in managing leave programs and workers compensation cases.
  • Leadership experience in managing a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions in relation to employee benefits.
  • Familiarity with UKG or similar HR management systems.
  • Certification in benefits management or HR-related fields.
