About the position

EchoStar Corporation is seeking a HR Business Partner for its Hughes Network Systems division, located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD. This role is pivotal in aligning business objectives with employee and managerial needs, ensuring that the HR function delivers value-added services. The HR Business Partner will work closely with management to develop initiatives that support business goals in a dynamic environment. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of HR metrics, including compensation, job levels, and attrition, to guide decision-making processes effectively. The HR Business Partner will provide support and guidance across various human resource functions, including benefits management, work-life balance, FMLA, ADA, time-off management, employee relations, and training. This role involves offering timely advice to managers on HRIS platform functionality, recruiting, performance management, payroll support, onboarding, and separations. Conducting exit interviews to identify reasons for employee departures and providing feedback to management is also a key responsibility. In addition, the HR Business Partner will lead employee relations situations, ensuring a fair and legally sound approach to investigations and actions. The role requires consulting with employees and managers to address root causes of HR issues, aiming to resolve conflicts systematically to minimize recurrence. A consultative recruiting approach is essential, collaborating with business leaders on recruiting strategies and understanding the responsibilities of the supported groups. This position is ideal for someone with a strong HR background who can navigate complex employee relations and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Work with management to develop initiatives supporting business goals and objectives in a constantly changing environment.
  • Analyze and evaluate HR metrics, such as compensation, job levels, and attrition, to guide decision making.
  • Partner with management in a variety of settings including counseling, coaching, and strategic planning.
  • Provide support and guidance to the employee population in all aspects of human resource functions including benefits, work life balance, FMLA, ADA, time off management, employee relations, and training.
  • Provide responsive and timely advice, supporting managers on all aspects of the human resources function, including HRIS platform functionality, recruiting, performance management, training, payroll support, onboarding, and separations.
  • Conduct exit interviews with a focus on identifying the reason for leaving and providing feedback and recommendations to management.
  • Lead employee relation situations to minimize risk and exposure by maintaining fair, legally sound, fully documented, and unbiased approach when conducting investigations and implementing actions.
  • Consult with employees and managers to address root causes of human resources issues, attempt to resolve employee relations issues with a systematic approach to minimize reoccurrence.
  • Provide consultation and advice to managers and non-managerial employees on a variety of issues and concerns ensuring that the individual and collective relationships between the business and its people are healthy, open and collaborative through appropriate communication strategies and management behavior.
  • Provide a consultative recruiting approach to the organizations supported by collaborating with business leaders on recruiting strategies and learning and thoroughly understanding the responsibilities and demands of the groups you support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or Business-related field (combination of education and experience)
  • 5+ years of HR Generalist experience
  • 1+ years of FMLA and ADA experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with Workday Recruiting/HCM or similar HCM systems
  • Customer service/results-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Experience working and recruiting in a similar industry such as Telecom, Engineering, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of compliance with all applicable federal, state, as well as local laws/regulations relating to recruiting and employment law
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
