About the position

The HR Coordinator at the University of Michigan's Department of Epidemiology is responsible for providing administrative support to the human resources team. This role involves coordinating temporary and graduate student appointments, managing payroll processes, and ensuring compliance with various HR policies. The HR Coordinator will work closely with the HR Generalist and other staff to maintain department records and assist in the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight for hiring of temporary employees, including preparing job descriptions, posting positions, onboarding/offboarding employees, and managing appointment/salary changes.
  • Process volunteer appointments within the department.
  • Coordinate time reporting processes for both temporary and regular employees, including follow-up for time approvals and answering payroll questions.
  • Collaborate with student services, financial staff, and HR Generalist to process appointment and funding information for graduate students.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with I-9 guidance, mandatory sexual harassment training, and other HR procedures.
  • Maintain department HR files, records, and relevant tracking systems.
  • Document HR policies and procedures for dissemination within the Epidemiology community.
  • Collect and summarize HR data as requested, including reviewing hourly rates and job titles for temporary appointments.
  • Process taxable reimbursements, including tuition support and travel expenses, and provide guidance on reimbursement processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience running and analyzing business reports to support decision making.
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite products.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service to diverse populations.
  • Experience dealing with sensitive information.
