Family Life Academy Charter School
posted 5 months ago
Family Life Academy Charter Schools (FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing charter schools located in the South Bronx. The organization is dedicated to creating an empowering educational environment for K-12 students, enabling them to excel academically and take responsibility for their own learning. The Special Education Teacher plays a crucial role in this mission by providing legally mandated services to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and those identified as needing at-risk interventions. This position is designed for the 2024-2025 school year and is under the supervision of the School Principal. The Special Education Teacher will work closely with students in small groups and collaborate with general education teachers in a co-teaching model. The goal is to ensure that all students make progress toward their IEP goals while accessing the grade-level curriculum. The teacher will develop IEP goals, track student progress, and create rigorous, culturally relevant lesson plans that prepare students for state examinations and higher education. Utilizing student-centered instructional strategies, the teacher will adapt and modify instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Special Education Teacher will maintain strong classroom management, implement school-wide policies, and foster a caring and respectful classroom culture. The teacher will also engage in professional development and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices. Upholding the mission and core beliefs of FLACS, the Special Education Teacher is expected to be a lifelong learner, reflect on their practice, and strive for continuous improvement in instructional effectiveness.
