Hub Driver (Class A)

About the position

The Hub Driver (Class A) position at Estes Express Lines involves safely operating a tractor/trailer for the transportation of freight. The role requires adherence to various safety regulations and compliance with FMCSA requirements. Drivers must conduct inspections, maintain records, and ensure the security of equipment and cargo while providing professional service to customers. The position may also involve dock work and requires flexibility in driving schedules based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Operate all types of equipment to perform safety functions including manual transmission and chaining tires.
• Safely operate a tractor/trailer in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and Local laws.
• Maintain records required for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Comply with requirements for the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
• Ensure security of equipment and cargo.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
• Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and ensure seals or locks on trailers are intact.
• Report maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision promptly.
• Verify unit numbers versus paperwork and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Use in-cab technology, including electronic logs, as required.
• Drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs.
• Assist with loading/unloading freight and over-the-road runs as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience.
• 21 years of age as per FMCSA regulations with 1 year of driving experience required.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Reside within 75 miles of the domiciled terminal or work assignment.
• HazMat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements required.
• Ability to drive a tractor trailer conforming to FMCSA requirements.
• Stable employment history preferred.
• Ability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle).
• Physical capability to push or pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs.
• Ability to lift approximately 70 lbs. or more as required by job functions.
• Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations.
• Pass a FMCSA required medical exam and road test.
• Ability to read, interpret, and comply with written information and documents.
