About the position

The Human Resources Specialist 1/Trainee 1/2 position at the Workers' Compensation Board is designed to support recruitment efforts and assist employees and program managers in various HR functions. This role involves coordinating recruitment activities, ensuring compliance with policies, and serving as a primary contact for personnel inquiries. The position offers a pathway for career advancement through a traineeship program, leading to a permanent role with competitive status.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of recruitment activities to provide program managers with a qualified candidate pool.
  • Ensure appointments are made in accordance with policy and Civil Service Law.
  • Conduct research and analysis to develop agency requests for classification and reallocation.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of employee and staffing issues in assigned program areas.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for personnel questions and problems.
  • Monitor employee status and ensure appropriate transactions are processed.
  • Keep abreast of program goals and alert supervisor of emerging problems.
  • Conduct research and represent the Board at scope conferences.
  • Maintain and update employee records and documentation of decisions.
  • Participate in special projects within Human Resources or inter-agency work groups.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.
  • Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree or higher for Trainee 1.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and one year of professional human resources experience for Trainee 2.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and two years of professional human resources experience for Specialist 1.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a government or public service environment.
  • Knowledge of Civil Service Law and recruitment processes.
