The HVAC Technician position at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, is a critical role responsible for the operation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of complex HVAC systems. This includes all components related to commercial and industrial-grade heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, as well as multi-zone systems that utilize pneumatic, electronic, and programmable logic controls. The technician will also assist in the repair of various systems including Building Automation Systems, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, Utility Plant Systems, and Lighting, among others, as required by departmental demands. In this role, the HVAC Technician will be tasked with operating, maintaining, installing, repairing, replacing, troubleshooting, and responding to both routine and emergency service calls related to HVAC systems and their components. This encompasses a wide range of equipment such as heat recovery systems, cooling coils, steam humidifiers, heating coils, condensate return systems, hot and cold water systems, pumping systems, air handlers, exhaust fans, variable air volume (VAV) systems, constant volume (CV) systems, air compressors, steam traps, pressure reducing valve (PRV) stations, and building automation systems. The technician will also be responsible for performing preventive maintenance inspections and services on HVAC and Process Equipment Systems according to an established schedule, providing input for upgrades or modifications as necessary. The position requires the technician to assist in the design, installation, and commissioning of new HVAC and Process Equipment Systems, as well as modifications to existing systems. The technician will provide immediate diagnosis and remedy to plant issues, and may need to contact formal on-call maintenance personnel or contractors for assistance. Training and mentoring of others in the operation and repair of HVAC and Process Equipment Systems will also be part of the responsibilities. The technician must ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Additionally, the role involves utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and create work orders, as well as providing detailed reports and presentations on equipment utilization and maintenance activities. The HVAC Technician may be required to work on a rotating on-call status and may need to work occasional shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends. The role also requires the ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed, and may involve occasional travel for training or project support.
