About The Position

The position involves repairing, maintaining, and installing heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment at the University of Denver. Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Journeyman skill level with a minimum of five years experience in the HVAC field.
  • EPA Universal Refrigeration Certificate.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable under University guidelines.
  • Knowledge of related OSHA and EPA regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Stationary Engineer Certificate.
  • Boiler Operators Class A or B license.
  • Steamfitter Journeyman License.
  • Heating and Ventilation Journeyman, Class A or B Supervisor License.
  • Refrigeration Journeyman, Class A or B Supervisor License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily rounds to check equipment in various mechanical rooms throughout campus.
  • Check and maintain alignment of motors with pumps, compressors, and V-belt drive equipment.
  • Check and maintain operation of electric controls and starters.
  • Log equipment temperatures, pressures, and amperage draw.
  • Monitor all water columns, gauges, meters, thermometers, and other indicating equipment.
  • Perform chemical analysis and add chemicals to equipment as needed.
  • Diagnose repair needs on all heating and cooling equipment and perform full corrective actions.
  • Perform seasonal changeover of heating and cooling systems as well as seasonal shutdown and start-up of various systems.
  • Clean waterside equipment, cooling towers, condenser tubes, and pump strainers.
  • Operate steam and hot water boilers, auxiliary equipment, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Read and sketch control diagrams and schematics.
  • Work with high-temperature solders, brazing methods, oxyacetylene, and electric arc welding.
  • Keep records and prepare analytical reports.
  • Complete work orders distributed by the foremen on a daily basis and track time and material for each work order.
  • Regulate and adjust operating controls.
  • Respond to call-outs for all shops and take appropriate action.
