Hypersonic Aerothermal Test Engineer

Responsibilities

• Perform primarily aerothermal test engineering functions with minimal supervision.
• Support in various technical areas including hypersonic air-breathing propulsion, hypersonic aerodynamics, air vehicle stability and control, vehicle performance, propulsion system/vehicle integration, aerothermal testing and analysis, thermal protection system ablation, fluid-thermal-structural interaction (FTSI), computational heat transfer, optical diagnostic techniques, and statistical methods.
• Assist in coordination and generation of requirements and analysis objectives, measures of performance, and success criteria for hypersonic weapon systems evaluation.
• Advise/assist the government and customer during the test planning process, including assessing test conditions and addressing test cell/test article interactions.
• Lead Technical, Safety, and Readiness Review Boards.
• Direct the execution of hypersonic ground tests.
• Perform in-depth analysis of resulting test data to meet analysis objectives.
• Prepare quick-look reports and detailed technical reports to record test planning, data processing and analysis, and conclusions/recommendations.
• Review state-of-the-art test and analysis techniques in literature and apply them to specific project requirements.
• Learn and effectively use a variety of government and in-house simulation codes and analysis tools.
• Work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
• An advanced degree and background or coursework related to the technical areas described above.
• Proficiency with Scientific Python (primary code) and Matlab (secondary).
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with senior staff and peers.
• Timely, efficient, and produce work of acceptable quality.
• Exhibit and foster cooperation and teamwork, enhance customer relations, and actively promote rapport with customers.
• Focused adherence to safety and security requirements in an office-based environment.
• Ability to obtain or have an active and transferrable DoD security clearance.
