About the position

The ICE Technician at NRG is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of instrument and control systems within the Plum Point Energy Station, a coal-fired power plant. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various systems to achieve maximum unit availability while adhering to safety and environmental standards. The technician will work closely with engineering teams and other crafts to support plant operations and respond to emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, analyzing, and modifying instrument and control systems associated with plant generating units and auxiliary systems.
  • Diagnosing, isolating, and resolving problems with the operation of instrument and control systems.
  • Verifying the accuracy of the operation and calibration of instruments and controls.
  • Performing maintenance of instruments and controls, adhering to service schedules.
  • Using test equipment and hand tools to troubleshoot and maintain devices and systems for the plant.
  • Making changes or additions to personal computers and computer programs using various control systems.
  • Analyzing complex test and operating data; preparing charts and graphs; and reporting on results.
  • Tuning and modifying complex control systems on Boiler/Turbine/Generator and other Combustion Controls.
  • Interfacing with manufacturers' representatives and engineering personnel during installation and start-ups of new systems.
  • Communicating condition of equipment and status of jobs to relevant personnel.
  • Reading and interpreting instruction manuals, blueprints, and control system drawings.
  • Completing all written and electronic records required to document work in progress.
  • Updating knowledge of plant systems and instrumentation continuously.
  • Coordinating work activities with other crafts and contractors.

Requirements

  • Must have 2 years formal training in electronics, instrumentation, engineering or related technical discipline, or 2 years military experience in electronics repair & calibration, or 2 years' experience of industrial Instrument & Control maintenance experience.
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills including written and verbal.
  • Complete understanding of plant operations and equipment required.
  • Ability to read English and understand technical manuals and drawings.
  • Ability to operate and use test equipment and hand tools.
  • Leadership qualities and the ability to interface with multiple disciplines required.
  • Ability to use a PC and learn associated software.

Nice-to-haves

  • An understanding of Reliability Based Maintenance is required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
