About the position

The Industrial Maintenance Technician II position is a critical role within Cornerstone Building Brands, focusing on the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and infrastructure. This position operates on the 2nd shift, from 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM, and is responsible for ensuring minimal production downtime due to equipment failures. The technician will perform both emergency and preventative repairs, adhering to safety protocols and quality management systems. The role requires a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including the ability to operate various testing equipment and tools necessary for maintenance tasks. In addition to repair duties, the technician will be responsible for maintaining clean and safe work areas, informing the Maintenance Supervisor about stock levels, and contributing to the development and review of standard operating procedures. The technician will also engage in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives, ensuring that all maintenance activities align with the company's operational goals. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to safety, particularly when working with heavy machinery and hazardous materials. The technician will utilize a variety of tools and equipment, including welding and cutting tools, lifting devices, and basic machine shop equipment. Physical demands include the ability to lift heavy components, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces. The position also requires compliance with safety regulations and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Overall, this role is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of the plant and supporting the company's commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure.
  • Minimize production time losses associated with equipment breakdowns.
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor about stock levels and provide ordering information for replenishment.
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures for maintenance functions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in established maintenance work areas.
  • Comply with quality and environmental management systems.
  • Understand and operate electrical testing equipment such as volt-ohm-millimeters (VOM) and non-contact voltage testers.
  • Select and install various types of mechanical fasteners.
  • Handle and apply various types of lubricants according to their properties and application methods.
  • Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives.
  • Weld, braze, solder, and cut metal as needed for repairs.
  • Use lifting equipment to move or manipulate heavy components safely.
  • Inspect and assemble scaffolding for maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Working towards or have an Associate Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Trained in LOTO, Electrical/Mechanical Safe Work Practices, Ladder Safety, CPR, and other safety protocols.
  • Basic PC skills for documentation and communication.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
  • Customer-focused approach to maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks such as squatting, crawling, and kneeling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
