About the position

The Inland Marine Underwriting Specialist at The Hanover Insurance Group is responsible for identifying, soliciting, underwriting, and selling new and renewal Specialty accounts. This role aims to drive profitable growth while aligning with industry segments and line of business goals. The specialist will apply technical, sales, and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions that help customers manage risk, operating with limited supervision and making informed risk decisions based on internal and external data.

Responsibilities

• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Specialty accounts.
• Apply underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, and loss analysis.
• Manage assigned portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, and retention goals.
• Develop and maintain agency relationships to drive profitable new and renewal business.
• Utilize market and competitor information to enhance relationships and decision-making.
• Make presentations to agents and customers, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of Hanover's products.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• 3-5+ years of Inland Marine or standard commercial lines experience.
• 3+ years' experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to change and solve problems.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in sales management and relationship building.
• Knowledge of market factors affecting pricing and underwriting decisions.
