About the position

Join Sutherland as an Inpatient DRG Coder, where you will play a crucial role in supporting some of the nation's largest health systems. This position is designed for individuals who are proficient in medical coding and can work efficiently from home. As an Inpatient DRG Coder, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex medical records to ensure accurate billing for services rendered. Your primary duties will include assigning and sequencing the correct diagnostic and procedure billing codes in compliance with third-party payor requirements. You will also need to obtain clarification when faced with conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation, ensuring that all coding is accurate and adheres to legal and policy directives pertinent to coding. This is a full-time, work-from-home position that requires a safe, secure, and distraction-free work environment, along with excellent and stable internet connectivity. Sutherland will provide the necessary equipment to facilitate your work. In return for your expertise and dedication, you will receive competitive compensation ranging from $25 to $35 per hour, depending on your experience. Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex medical records to identify and accurately bill services.
  • Assign and sequence correct diagnostic and procedure billing codes in compliance with third-party payor requirements.
  • Obtain clarification when presented with conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and policy directives pertinent to coding.
  • Utilize proper reference materials, standards, and guidelines for coding.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of inpatient coding experience.
  • RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS, CIC certification.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and research skills with keen attention to detail.
  • A bachelor's degree, certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coding concepts for facility diagnosis and procedure coding and DRG assignment.
  • Familiarity with software applications used to document patient services and confidentiality requirements.
