About the position

As a Field Service Engineer on the Install Team at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting hardware, solving complex problems, and enhancing the performance of cutting-edge equipment. This position requires you to work both in our state-of-the-art facility and at customer sites globally, making you the face of Applied Materials and an integral part of a vibrant and diverse team. Candidates must be fully authorized to work in the U.S., as visa sponsorship is not available for this role. In this role, you will assist with the installation of advanced customer equipment, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and equipment upgrades. You will follow the procedures learned during your training, as well as published task plans, to test equipment and diagnose technical issues. Completing required job documentation, safety training, and procedures for processing parts is essential. You will represent Applied Materials professionally to customers, embodying a "customer first" mindset, and ensuring compliance with the company's and customer's on-site requirements, including safety, environmental, and COVID-19 guidelines. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to train junior engineers on site-related safety and troubleshooting procedures, fostering a customer-first mindset among your peers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installing leading-edge customer equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance.
  • Upgrade equipment as necessary.
  • Follow procedures learned during training and published task plans to test equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems effectively.
  • Complete required job documentation and safety training.
  • Process parts according to established procedures.
  • Represent Applied Materials professionally to customers.
  • Satisfy on-site requirements including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Train junior engineers on safety and troubleshooting procedures.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in electronics or engineering technologies, equivalent work experience, or completion of military technical training and field experience.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and/or thermodynamics.
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4-7 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry.
