About the position
The Instructional Assistant III position at Whitney Ave Elementary School is a part-time role focused on supporting students with severe emotional disturbances and learning disabilities. The assistant will work closely with students in specialized programs, providing necessary support to enhance their educational experience. This role requires a compassionate individual who can effectively engage with children facing various challenges, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Support students with severe emotional disturbances and learning disabilities.
- Assist in implementing educational programs for students designated as emotionally disturbed or in autism classes.
- Work with individual students assigned to a Behaviorist.
- Provide support in group settings for children with impairments.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher education qualification.
- Experience working with groups of children, particularly those with impairments.
- Coursework in child development is highly desirable.
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with impaired children or adults.
- Training in special education or related fields.
