About the position

The Instructional Designer 2 plays a crucial role in the Instructional Development team, focusing on designing and reviewing high-quality instruction for technology-enabled learning environments. This position not only involves direct instructional design responsibilities but also includes mentoring Instructional Designers 1, thereby contributing to leadership within the group. The role requires collaboration with faculty and content experts to ensure effective instructional strategies are applied in various projects, particularly those that are larger and more complex.

Responsibilities

• Designs effective, quality instruction for technology-enabled learning environments, including larger and more complex projects.
• Cultivates close, collaborative relationships with faculty, content experts, and development team members.
• Applies systematic instructional design methods in online instructional settings.
• Reviews the instructional quality of courses/products.
• Identifies and clarifies instructional objectives.
• Assesses faculty and content expert teaching styles and student audiences to apply appropriate learning theories.
• Questions and influences faculty practices to enhance instruction.
• Implements innovative approaches to solve instructional problems.
• Selects appropriate technologies to enhance instruction in courses/products.
• Identifies areas of weakness in courses/products and employs strategies for improvement.
• Uses design documents based on sound instructional design principles to communicate course visions.
• Collaborates with content experts on course updates and revisions.
• Performs web development tasks using fundamental web technologies and eLearning tools.
• Documents progress/status of assigned tasks for review.
• Reports regularly to Project Managers on assignments and progress.
• Provides accurate time and effort estimates on tasks/projects.
• Serves as Instructional Design Lead on multi-designer projects.
• Mentors Instructional Designers 1 on their responsibilities.
• Models the use of SLCC Online Learning Model(s) in instructional design practices.

Requirements

• Experience in instructional design for technology-enabled learning environments.
• Strong understanding of learning theory and instructional design theory.
• Proficiency in web development technologies and eLearning development tools.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and content experts.
• Experience in mentoring or leading instructional design teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with current technology tools and trends in online and higher education.
• Experience in facilitating eLearning faculty credentials and training resources.
