About the position

STEMHealthcare is the primary contact for STEM and Healthcare faculty. This position provides support for developing and maintaining online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses. This role will involve daily meetings and training sessions with faculty and will require collaboration with the Online Learning team and Academic Affairs leadership team on new initiatives for distance learning. Responsibilities

  • Assists the Division of Academic and Student Affairs in meeting its goal of becoming a global leader in asynchronous online STEM education
  • Provides instructional design consultation and project management for web-enhanced, hybrid, and fully online courses
  • Conducts workshops, demonstrations, and individual training sessions for faculty, staff, and students
  • Analyzes course content for quality assurance in both delivery and engagement of material
  • Collaborates with STEM and Healthcare faculty to develop and implement an ongoing process for reviewing and refreshing courses regularly
  • Ensures that the latest technologies are adopted to teach these highly applied disciplines
  • Ensures that the latest standards in pedagogical delivery and instructional design are followed
  • Reviews courses to ensure they meet the State University of New York (SUNY) Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSCQR) standard
  • Participates in instructional design professional development activities, including those offered through the SUNY Center for Professional Development
  • Attends all required meetings, including those related to instructional design with SUNY Innovates
  • Creates new ways of delivering online labs, lectures, and other content
  • Works with Information Technology staff members to integrate technology into courses and programs as requested and to make improvements to enhance online course quality and support
  • Creates equitable courses for learners of all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, or disability

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related area required
  • One year of experience designing and developing instructor-led, asynchronous, web-based instruction, preferably in a community college setting required
  • Applying adult learning principles and various instructional design approaches to STEM content
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to identify user needs, analyze complex information, and create engaging and compelling learning experiences
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and working with online learning technologies

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching certification in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline or healthcare is preferred
  • Designing and developing online courses using modern educational technology tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline, and Panopto
  • Proficient in using Brightspace as a learning management system and familiar with e-learning standards, such as SCORM and xAPI
  • Experience with synchronous tools, such as WebEx and Zoom, as well as accessibility tools and guidelines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with a track record of developing and testing high-quality e-learning modules
  • Preferred experience includes working with LTI 13 tools from textbook publishers, like Cengage and Pearson, designing and implementing OER text and materials with appropriate copyrights, and creating or researching online simulations for physical sciences
