About the position

The Instructional Designer and Technologist (IDT) position aims to design engaging and effective online learning experiences. The IDT will use current instructional design theories and methodologies to work with faculty and Program Advisors in creating online programs and courses. The role also involves implementing Quality Matters (QM) to enhance the educational quality of our online and asynchronous and synchronous programs. The IDT will be responsible for designing custom multimedia content, implementing best practices in online course design, ensuring quality standards are met, and providing training and support in educational technologies. Additionally, the IDT will collaborate with faculty to assess needs, create original content, modify existing materials, and design course documents such as curriculum maps, storyboards, and mock-ups to guide the course development process. The Instructional Designer will also provide training and support for learning technologies and collaborate with faculty and staff to develop engaging and inclusive online and hybrid learning experiences. This role emphasizes adherence to Quality Matters (QM) standards and the integration of multimedia tools to support varied learning styles and promote student success in a tribal college/university (TCU).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to design and develop online and hybrid courses that meet QM standards.
  • Apply instructional design principles to create engaging, inclusive, and pedagogically sound course materials.
  • Develop and integrate multimedia elements, such as videos, interactive activities, and simulations, to enhance learning experiences.
  • Ensure all course designs adhere to QM standards, including the alignment of learning objectives, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Conduct peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to faculty on course design, aligning with QM rubrics and best practices.
  • Facilitate QM training sessions and workshops for faculty and staff to promote understanding and implementation of QM standards.
  • Utilize multimedia tools and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, etc.) to create and enhance course content.
  • Stay current with emerging educational technologies and multimedia trends to recommend innovative solutions for instructional needs.
  • Troubleshoot and support multimedia tools and technologies used in course delivery.
  • Provide one-on-one and group consultations to faculty on best practices in instructional design, course development, and the use of educational technology.
  • Offer faculty ongoing support and professional development in effectively using multimedia and instructional design strategies.
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of course designs and instructional materials.
  • Analyze student feedback and performance data to make data-driven recommendations for course improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, with a comprehensive understanding of Higher Learning Commission criteria and accreditation processes.
  • Design and implement instructional materials that reflect diverse perspectives and support an inclusive learning environment for all students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives to ensure course content is accessible and equitable for all students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design in a higher education setting.
  • Proven experience with Quality Matters standards and conducting QM course reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, with a comprehensive understanding of Higher Learning Commission criteria and accreditation processes in distance education guidelines.
  • Experience in developing multimedia content and using multimedia tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and best practices in online and hybrid learning.
  • Proficiency in Quality Matters competencies and ability to apply QM standards to course design.
  • Expertise in multimedia tools and technologies for creating engaging instructional content.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Expert in use of MAC books, ChromeBooks, laptops, and desktops and Camtasia, Articulate, Panopto, Storyline, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to work remotely.
