About the position

The Instructional Specialist for Special Education plays a crucial role in supporting teachers of students with disabilities by providing training, guidance, and assistance in various instructional strategies and methodologies. This position focuses on enhancing the educational experience for students with disabilities through the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and the effective use of assistive technology. The specialist will collaborate with educators to improve student outcomes and ensure compliance with educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support teachers of students with disabilities in behavior, autism, assistive technology, and instructional strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance for the implementation of student IEPs.
  • Assist in the use of various instructional methodologies and specialized curriculums.
  • Support the acquisition and use of instructional assistive technology services and devices.
  • Design and arrange the physical classroom environment to enhance student achievement.
  • Develop compliant IEPs and utilize the district's computerized IEP program.
  • Interpret assessment data and its instructional implications for special education teachers.
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Special Education regarding training and program status.
  • Maintain positive relationships with teachers, administrators, and special education personnel.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education or equivalent specialization.
  • Five or more years of related experience in instructional coaching or professional development facilitation.
  • New Mexico Level III Teacher License.
  • Strong understanding of data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
