About the position

The Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) will be responsible for designing and developing both formal and informal learning solutions for the Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy. This role requires a deep understanding of instructional design principles, particularly the ADDIE process, and the ability to integrate technology into learning experiences. The ISD will work closely with various stakeholders to assess learning needs and create effective instructional materials that enhance the learning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop formal and informal learning solutions using a variety of methods.
  • Develop course assessment plans.
  • Conduct a needs assessment.
  • Identify appropriate learning approach(es) and apply learning theory(ies).
  • Design a curriculum, program, or learning solution.
  • Design instructional material.
  • Analyze and select technologies.
  • Integrate technology options.
  • Develop instructional materials.
  • Evaluate learning design.
  • Create and validate tests.

Requirements

  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders who may have competing priorities.
  • Expertise in understanding learning needs and the systematic development of learning experiences, especially using technology and multimedia to enhance instruction.
  • At least five (5) years of ISD knowledge of the entire ADDIE process (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) for curriculum creation, development, and updates.
  • Knowledge of Office Suites software (Power Point, Word, PDFs).
  • Knowledge of versioning and release management for managing curriculum products in development or published stages.
  • Experience with flash design and publishing - HTML/SCORM publishing knowledge.
  • Experience with audio/video editing.
  • Graphic Design layout ability.
  • Knowledge of file management practices and versioning for source files and course (operational) files and ability to maintain control of files through development cycles and course update processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) highly preferred.
  • Section 508 Knowledge and Expertise.
  • Experience with Adobe Master CC Suite 2019 (Specifically: Photoshop, Animate, Illustrate, Audition, Premier Pro, Capture CC, After Effects, and Audition).
  • Experience with Adaptive Release (mobile publishing and SCORM).
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) - Currently the VAAA uses Blackboard, FAI, TMS, and Adobe Connect Meeting.
