About the position

Solstice Consulting Group is seeking an Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Manufacturing Engineer for an energy & environmental services client based in Oklahoma City, OK. This role serves as an Instrument & Control Engineer (I&C) for Oil & Gas Production Equipment and will be responsible for engineering and design of instrument & control systems for processing equipment packages. The work is both technical and hands-on in nature, relying on experience and independent judgment to perform the functions of the job. The position requires reviewing customer specifications and clarifying the scope of work for projects. The engineer will analyze documentation, materials, and calculations to ensure compliance with customer, product, safety, quality, and industry standards and requirements. The role also involves setting engineering standards and direction focused on continuous improvement, increased efficiency, and cost reduction. This is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week in the Oklahoma City or Tulsa office, with an expected travel commitment of 25%. The base salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $140,000, depending on experience, along with bonus opportunities and benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Support applications/sales team for instrumentation & control design and specifications.
  • Work in close collaboration with engineering and contract management.
  • Own the technical analysis of customer inquiries, control RFQs, or tenders, to determine proposal requirements and scope of supply.
  • Communicate directly with internal and external customers, evaluate on-site project conditions during the tendering phase.
  • Develop technical descriptions, cost estimates, project schedules, and commercial terms for commercial quotation activities.
  • Work in conjunction with Project Managers/Project Engineers to ensure that project scope of work for equipment package control system design is clearly defined.
  • Finalize control system architecture for the equipment package and select control system hardware based on customer specifications and project requirements.
  • Review customer specifications and prepare technical specifications defining the control requirements on the project for third-party control system design/manufacturing companies.
  • Review and manage deliverables of the control system to ensure adherence to project requirements.
  • Understand hazardous area classification requirements to finalize design and layout of the electrical/control instrumentation on a package.
  • Size instrument cables, junction boxes, conduit, cable trays, and layout of instrument/electrical on the package within the guidelines of Oil & Gas industry codes and standards.
  • Prepare controls schematic, cable schedule, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams.
  • Design, develop, and debug PLC-based programs and electrical control systems.
  • Participate in HAZOP/HAZID, LOPA, SIL Analysis, etc. as required by projects.
  • Provide engineering support to procurement for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Support manufacturing during assembly of the package, inspection, calibration, loop checking, and factory acceptance test (FAT).
  • Provide start-up assistance during commissioning of equipment package at site.
  • Develop operating procedures, acceptance test, and validation test plans and protocols.
  • Support applications engineering on technical issues related to preparation of proposals.
  • Develop engineering design tools and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy of work.
  • Identify and execute product standardization opportunities and participate in new product development programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics/Control Engineering required.
  • 5+ years Instrument & Controls Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of instrument & controls system design and its application for Oil & Gas process equipment packages.
  • Experience in programming PLCs, HMI, sequence logic design, PID loop design and implementation.
  • Technical skills to read and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&IDs).
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of industry standards (API, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, IEC, etc.).
  • Working experience with Burner Management Systems (BMS) is a plus.
  • Advanced PC skills including MS Excel and CAD skills.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $100k to $140k DOE plus bonus opportunity and benefits.
