About the position

Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking an experienced-level Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to be a part of our growing team. The ideal candidate will provide instrumentation & control discipline technical expertise as well as I&C team leadership for the execution and evaluation of project designs. This role involves working independently on small projects or as part of a large multi-discipline team on larger projects, collaborating with both internal and external engineers and construction partners to deliver the industry's best engineering and physical design. Project assignments will range from supporting proposals and estimates to technical design execution and construction and commissioning support. Responsibilities

  • Act as a lead or support engineer on various projects providing technical solutions for design, construction, equipment, and operations of SCADA system replacements/upgrades and other I&C projects for power projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for projects of all sizes and complexity.
  • Incorporate contract and customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other contractual requirements to ensure projects meet or exceed goals.
  • Contribute to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates, leading cost, feasibility, and planning studies.
  • Develop and apply a comprehensive understanding of departmental design and industry standard methods, engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines to oversee and perform design calculations, project drawings, and specifications.
  • Formulate and prepare technical specifications, perform bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals, and develop recommendations for equipment selection and contract awards.
  • Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel.
  • Oversee and direct supplier shop drawing reviews, comments, and approvals, and perform technical contract administration.
  • Mentor and direct the work of entry and mid-level employees for skills development, reviewing their progress and providing direction as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to address electrical/I&C-related design concepts, issues, or concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
  • At least 5 years' experience in instrumentation and controls engineering and design, with a minimum of three years in the power generation market.
  • Familiarity with control system programming concepts.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and PLC; DCS system experience is desirable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Displays leadership and confidence to mentor peers.
