About the position

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Manager at Jacobs will oversee the I&C department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions for industrial and commercial projects. This role involves managing schedules, budgets, and technical quality while mentoring team members and fostering their professional growth. The manager will also be responsible for resource allocation, staff forecasting, and maintaining effective communication with clients and operations management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the I&C department with minimal supervision.
  • Provide direction and oversight for department administrative tasks.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality expectations, schedules, and budgets.
  • Regularly forecast department staff needs.
  • Balance department staff levels with workload requirements.
  • Hire, recruit, and train staff to maintain necessary skill sets.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend career advancement.
  • Monitor work quality and make design or corrective decisions as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Act as a mentor and coach for team members.
  • Assist in project proposals by determining scope and design budgets.
  • Incorporate code and safety requirements into designs.
  • Maintain effective communication with department members, management, and clients.
  • Drive growth and continuous improvement within Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or Instrument Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of Instrumentation and Control System experience, preferably in industrial/cGMP manufacturing projects.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SmartPlant, Revit, VISIO, and Bluebeam.
  • Proven experience leading design on various project sizes.
  • Ability to travel as needed by project requirements.
  • Quick learner with a drive to broaden knowledge base.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC, DCS, and other controls applications.
  • Advanced knowledge using SmartPlant Instrumentation (InTools).

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred but not required.
  • Passion for buildings and construction.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Forward-thinking with a desire to learn best practices and contribute innovative ideas.
