About the position

The Flight Test Instrumentation Design Engineer position at Honda Aircraft Company is responsible for the design, development, and coordination of equipment to support Flight Test operations. This role involves creating engineering drawings, ensuring compliance with design standards, and collaborating with various teams to meet design requirements for experimental flight tests.

Responsibilities

  • Collects design requirements and develops designs, engineering drawings, and workflows to implement those designs.
  • Evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability for test equipment and installations.
  • Designs installations, products, and components of products supporting Flight Test Instrumentation.
  • Generates engineering drawings and related documents ensuring soundness, efficiency, and simplicity in design.
  • Generates documentation for Vendor Requirements, SOW's, and Functional Checkout procedures.
  • Interfaces with Flight Operations and Aircraft Coordination teams to ensure design requirements are satisfied.
  • Coordinates with electrical design and initiates procurement for test equipment installations.
  • Integrates external 3rd party test equipment into Experimental Flight Test aircraft, coordinating electrical and mechanical interfaces.
  • Maintains Flight Test Drawings schedule coordination with overall Flight Test Schedule.
  • Generates prototype/fabrication orders and supports fabrication, installation, and functional checkout of test equipment.
  • Resolves issues related to design, documentation, procurement, fabrication, and installation.
  • Monitors installation progress for support of schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D multiple component designs and 2D fully dimensional and tolerance drawings.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 and PLM systems, with TeamCenter strongly preferred.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong computer operating systems skills.
  • Strong drive to follow tasks to completion.
  • Strong awareness of schedule driven requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound Engineering Design decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data acquisition systems and a wide range of instrumentation sensors.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations.
