About the position

The Instrumentation Engineering Specialist position at GE Vernova involves providing technical support for thermal performance testing of gas and steam turbines at power plants. This role requires hands-on involvement in the installation and operation of test instruments, ensuring accurate data collection for performance evaluation. The specialist will lead onsite activities, coordinate with various teams, and travel extensively to domestic and international sites to execute performance tests.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support for thermal performance testing of steam and gas turbines at combined cycle power plants.
  • Execute or provide technical direction for the installation of test instruments to measure pressures, temperatures, flows, and kilowatt outputs.
  • Support Basic and Advanced Emissions testing at power plants, requiring significant physical effort and working at heights.
  • Lead onsite activities associated with the preparation and execution of performance tests, coordinating with multiple site teams and remote engineering teams.
  • Travel up to 80% of the time to domestic and international power plant sites, with field test assignments ranging from one to eight weeks.
  • Support EHS excellence on all jobs performed.
  • Provide insightful job performance feedback to People Leaders.
  • Assist in quality initiatives, corrective actions, continuous improvement, and lean events.

Requirements

  • Associate or BS Engineering / Instrumentation Degree or 3 years' related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in instrumentation for thermal performance testing and evaluation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of instrumentation principles, calibration, installation requirements, operation, communications, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in testing and operation of turbines in power generation, aviation, or marine propulsion systems.
  • Understanding of Power Plant design and operation and its impact on turbine performance.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to lead an onsite installation team.
  • Strong computer skills and self-starter attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey technical concepts.
