The National Science Foundation is seeking qualified candidates for an Interdisciplinary (Program Director) position for the Communications, Circuits, and Sensing-Systems (CCSS) program within the Directorate of Engineering (ENG), Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS) in Alexandria, VA. The CCSS Program supports innovative research in circuit and system hardware and signal processing techniques, as well as system and network architectures for communications and sensing to enable next-generation cyber-physical systems (CPS). The program encourages research proposals based on emerging technologies and applications for communications and sensing, including high-speed communications, personalized health monitoring, and secured wireless connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT). The responsibilities of the NSF Program Director are guided by NSF's Strategic Plan, which aims to uphold U.S. leadership in science, mathematics, and engineering, promote the integration of new knowledge, and achieve excellence in education.

  • Maintain a healthy balance of support for all the needs of the research and education enterprise.
  • Manage program resources to ensure integrity and consistency in the grant/declination process.
  • Manage an effective, timely merit review process, increasing the size and quality of the reviewer pools.
  • Provide scientific expertise, evaluation, and advice for other programs in NSF.
  • Advise and assist in the development of short- and long-range plans for research programs.
  • Plan the budget for the program and manage post-award evaluation.
  • Represent the Program, Division, and Foundation within the scientific community and with other agencies.
  • Prepare and disseminate a variety of informational documents related to NSF's goals.
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
  • Knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuits and/or trusted microelectronic circuits.
  • Experience with energy-efficient circuits and algorithms for integrated sensing, communication, and computing.
  • Familiarity with circuits and systems for biomedical applications and cyber-physical systems.
