About the position

The Mechanical Engineer Intern D position at L3Harris Technologies involves providing mechanical engineering support for new product development and existing product factory support. The intern will translate product requirements into mechanical specifications, execute verification testing, conduct design analysis, and work closely with mechanical designers on CAD models and documentation. This role offers the opportunity to engage in various tasks related to aircraft systems and structural engineering, contributing to the design, modification, and maintenance of aircraft structures and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for new product development and factory support of existing products.
  • Translate product requirements into mechanical specifications and test plans.
  • Execute verification testing as defined by the mechanical specifications and test plans.
  • Conduct design analysis and testing, both structural and thermal, to ensure designs meet customer requirements.
  • Understand customer needs, generate test procedures, and execute tests.
  • Generate and process engineering change orders (ECO's) as required.
  • Work directly with mechanical designers on CAD models and part documentation.
  • Perform structural analysis of aircraft modifications and prepare necessary technical documentation.
  • Determine stress levels in aircraft structures and systems resulting from applied loads.
  • Support the transition from engineering design to manufacturing and aircraft installation of designed products.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to apply principles of Structural Mechanics to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities.
  • Experience with CAD or analysis (FEA) tools, and/or mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation and data collection.
  • Experience with automation and software programming for numerical analysis.
  • Working knowledge of one programming language.
  • Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principles.
