About the position

Metropolitan Family Services (MFS) is seeking a dedicated Internal Communications Manager to join our team in Chicago, IL. This role is pivotal in developing and executing a comprehensive internal communications plan in collaboration with the President's Office. The Internal Communications Manager will assess and define key internal communications goals and strategies, evolving them through a strategic planning process. The successful candidate will establish guidelines and protocols for All-Staff communications, including frequency, timing, and channels, while providing guidance and support on message clarity and tone. In this position, you will manage the cadence and content of internal communications across various departments, ensuring alignment with MFS priorities. You will collaborate with the Information Systems (IS) Team to document communications best practices and support the use of MFS-preferred communication technologies. Monitoring and analyzing internal communication metrics to measure engagement and effectiveness will also be a key responsibility. Additionally, you will work closely with the External Affairs Communications Team to amplify and reinforce public-facing messaging internally, ensuring consistency with MFS' brand voice and standards across all internal communication channels and materials. The Internal Communications Manager will coordinate All Staff and Center-based town hall events, whether in-person, virtual, or hybrid, to ensure effective communication and engagement. You will assist in developing communications strategies and templates for MFS-wide initiatives, ensuring alignment with MFS goals and messaging. Regular assessments of internal communications effectiveness will be conducted, with proposals for improvements as needed. This role also involves facilitating cohesive communication and consistent messaging among departments, bridging gaps to ensure alignment and coordination across MFS. Support in graphic design and copyright compliance for internal communications materials will be part of your duties as well.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications plan in collaboration with the President's Office.
  • Assess and define key internal communications goals and strategies, evolving them with a strategic planning process.

  • Provide support in graphic design and in general copyright support for internal communications materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field is preferred but may be substituted by relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in internal communications required, preferably in a non-profit or human services organization.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in developing and executing internal communications strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong project management skills, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Confluence), email services (e.g., MailChimp, Marketing Cloud), and digital communication platforms.
  • Strong skills managing virtual and hybrid meetings, and strong proficiency in web-conferencing platforms and tools such as Zoom.
  • Knowledge of best practices in internal communications, including employee engagement strategies and communication technologies.
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with senior leaders and diverse teams, fostering a culture of open communication.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to monitor and analyze internal communication metrics to measure engagement and to assess effectiveness.
