About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to learn from the Medical Management Expert (MMX) Team, gaining insights into medical management strategies, teamwork, and the role of nurses in managing occupational injuries. Interns will engage in job shadowing and special projects, collaborating with various medical professionals to understand the complexities of care management and the impact of medical treatment on injured workers' recovery.

Requirements

• Status as a sophomore, junior, or senior by the end of the spring term, or enrolled in a graduate program.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better as of the most recent grading period.
• Ability to work full-time during normal business hours for the summer.
• Availability to begin employment between mid-May and mid-June.

Responsibilities

• Job shadow with MMX leaders to learn about medical management strategies.
• Work with nurse case managers to understand the case management process.
• Meet with the pharmacist and pharmacy nurse team to learn about pharmaceutical needs and opioid risks.
• Collaborate with the utilization review team to learn about evidence-based medicine guidelines.
• Discuss current medical trends in workers' compensation with the Corporate Medical Director.
• Engage with the nurse triage and telemedicine program to learn about innovations in medical care.
• Support the MMX team through various medical management projects.
• Attend unit, departmental, and corporate meetings as assigned.
• Prepare and deliver presentations on assigned topics.
• Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
