About The Position

The Senior Health Services internship is a fully remote, full-time paid opportunity for pharmacy students in their second year. The role focuses on assisting with quality improvement metrics for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Medicare population, particularly in relation to CMS Stars measures. Interns will engage in telephonic outreach to patients and providers, gaining valuable experience in a managed care pharmacy setting while working 40 hours per week from mid-May to mid-August.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program by the start of the internship is mandatory.
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 in the PharmD program is required.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree prior to the start of the PharmD program is highly preferred.
  • Work experience in a hospital or community pharmacy is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience with computers and MS Office; Internet research experience strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Proofread documents for spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Strong phone skills, especially when speaking to members/patients.
  • Good presentation skills and medical literature research skills are essential.
  • Participate in shared decision making and escalate to pharmacy preceptor when appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver presentation(s) on assigned pharmacy topic(s).
  • Show continuous learning and both personal and professional growth and understanding of responsibilities.
  • Show punctuality, professionalism, and a positive attitude when completing assignments.
  • Manage multiple deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information.
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
  • Assemble member communication letters and articles regarding a variety of health and medication topics.
  • Compose communications directed to prescribers about common prescribing issues.
  • Conduct member education calls to assist with Medicare Part D quality improvement measures.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with clinical pharmacists and other team members to develop and execute projects.
  • Manage, organize, and analyze information databases relative to intern projects.
  • Perform other related duties which may not be specifically listed in the position description.
