About the position

The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant at Southwest Medical Imaging (SMIL) plays a crucial role in supporting a team of IR Physicians and other Physician Assistants in a hospital-based setting. This position focuses on providing direct patient care, performing a variety of minor procedures, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient management. The role offers a Monday through Friday schedule with no call or weekend duties, making it ideal for those seeking a balanced work-life environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill primary role as a physician extender through interactions with referring physicians, allied hospital staff, and both in-patients and out-patients.
  • Become proficient in performing a wide scope of minor procedures, including central venous catheter, port-a-catheter, and PIC catheter placement and removal; paracentesis; thoracentesis; bone marrow biopsy; lumbar puncture; myelogram; joint aspiration and injection; nasogastric tube placement; chest tube placement, exchange, and removal; drainage catheter exchange and removal; and simple soft tissue biopsy.
  • Assist in the performance of direct patient care services, including inpatient consults and inpatient rounding.
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and diagnose and treat illnesses.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and radiographic studies.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans and record progress notes.
  • Field phone calls from patients, referring physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals regarding the coordination of patient care.
  • Educate patients on their medical care.
  • Perform any other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an ARC accredited PA program with active NCCPA certification, DEA license, Arizona state license, and BLS/ACLS certification.
  • Prior experience in Interventional Radiology, Surgery, or Emergency Medicine is preferred.
