About the position

The IPS Human Service Counselor plays a crucial role in supporting individuals in their recovery and employment journey. This position focuses on implementing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, which integrates mental health services with employment support. The counselor is responsible for developing personalized employment plans, collaborating with various stakeholders, and providing ongoing support to clients as they navigate barriers to employment and pursue career development.

Responsibilities

  • Developing the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) or Employment Plan for assigned individuals.
  • Collaborating with Employment Program Managers (EPMs), behavioral health providers, families, and community service providers.
  • Coordinating services to ensure a person-centered approach in service planning.
  • Building relationships with employers to understand their hiring practices and preferences.
  • Conducting IPS-SE Critical Elements including career profiling and benefits counseling.
  • Addressing barriers to employment and facilitating rapid job searches.
  • Providing support with job accommodations and assistive technology.
  • Offering ongoing skill building and psychiatric rehabilitation support.
  • Completing documentation requirements including service notes and employment plans.
  • Participating in required training and maintaining education as per service definitions.

Requirements

  • Prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a relevant field, or equivalent experience with certification.
  • Experience serving the mental health and substance abuse population.
  • Certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community service coordination.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in mental health and employment support.
