About the position

The Infrastructure Operations Center (IOC) is responsible for 24x7x365 monitoring and problem resolution related to Southern Company's Technology Organization Infrastructure. These infrastructure components include but are not limited to mainframe systems, distributed computing systems, network and telecommunications systems. This is a frontline systems infrastructure analyst position responsible for monitoring and managing the Southern Company Services (SCS) distributed computing environment consisting of the IBM mainframe, Windows servers, Unix/Linux servers, web applications, Enterprise Storage, and Oracle and SQL Server databases. This includes monitoring, diagnosis, and resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the Southern Company Services (SCS) distributed computing environment.
  • Provide centralized monitoring, first line problem diagnosis and resolution for computing systems and mainframe technologies.
  • Track and document all issues and resolutions in detail.
  • Monitor backup processes associated with disaster recovery for business-critical applications.
  • Provide first line problem determination and recovery for abnormal termination of applications.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities with frontline tools, processes, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Perform detailed troubleshooting of events involving the health and availability of the computing/mainframe environment.

Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge of infrastructure event management tools.
  • Ability to interface and coordinate repair efforts with external vendors.
  • In-depth knowledge of computing systems troubleshooting techniques.
  • Practical experience working with computing systems and respective alarm information.
  • Working knowledge of the OUA (Oracle Unified Assurance) application.
  • Experience running batch jobs in Jobtrac, Autosys, and Control-M.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in 24x7x365 operations.
  • Education in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field.
