About the position

The Idaho State Tax Commission is seeking an experienced Software Engineer 3 to provide complex data analysis, software programming, and technical support. The role involves analyzing user needs, designing and modifying application systems, and defining system requirements. The position is based in Boise, Idaho, and reports to the Technical Support Bureau in the Property Tax Division, which supports county Assessors and Treasurers in Idaho.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex data and application analysis, design and development
  • Apply technical knowledge to identify and solve complex data and software problems
  • Work with end users to identify software requirements and solutions
  • Train staff and county users on the use of supported applications
  • May direct and mentor junior level developers in the best design process and development strategies

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of programming languages and software development tool suites (minimum two years of experience or relevant coursework)
  • Considerable knowledge of data architecture, software architecture, common software design patterns, and development and testing practices (minimum five years of experience or relevant degree)
  • At least 2 years of experience creating, interpreting, and documenting user requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience analyzing development solutions to show costs and benefits
  • At least 2 years of experience deploying production systems
  • At least 2 years of experience establishing and defining architecture and development standards

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with the RPG programming language
