About the position

The IT Technical Writer position is a temporary role within the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically assigned to the Medical Examiner Information System Replacement (MEIS-R) program. In addition to creating user manuals, the role involves associating software documentation with design control and validation requirements, writing user interface text for the medical examiner information system, and developing online help resources and developer guides. The writer will also review and edit content for accuracy, consistency, and clarity, maintaining a keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality deliverables. Candidates should possess strong networking and organizational skills, with experience working across both private and public organizations. This senior-level position requires the ability to work with limited supervision and direction, demonstrating thorough knowledge of public and business administration principles as they relate to program development. The role demands considerable knowledge of economic, social, and technological needs relevant to the program area of assignment, along with skills in program development, analysis, and evaluation. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a technology-related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in technical writing or working in a technology role.
  • Associate degree in technology, business writing, or related fields from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in technical writing or working in a technology role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong writing skills and technical knowledge.
  • Effective communication skills to convey information to a varied audience (technical/nontechnical).
  • Strong understanding of the implications of new information for problem solving and decision-making.
  • Strong time management skills for self and others.
  • Working knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including grammar and composition rules.
  • Basic knowledge of technology-related terminology and concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills to address work-related issues and problems.
