About the position

Textron Aviation is seeking a skilled individual to join our Jig Shop in Independence, Kansas. This position involves performing a wide variety of tasks with a strong emphasis on welding skills. As part of our legacy in private aviation, you will have the opportunity to work with iconic brands such as Cessna and Beechcraft, contributing to the journey of flight that has inspired us for nine decades. Your role will be crucial in building, altering, repairing, and maintaining complicated jigs and fixtures, requiring considerable skill and knowledge of tooling practices and applications. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, laying out, and executing all fabrication and assembly operations necessary for the production of jigs and fixtures. You will work from complex drawings and specifications to develop the necessary tools, determining material requirements and making calculations to ensure accuracy. Your ability to prepare sketches for machining, welding, or assembling various parts will be essential. You will also check and set production jigs and fixtures using master gauges and optical tooling to ensure correct alignment and location of tooling points. Additionally, you will utilize advanced technology such as the Laser Tracker and computer systems to determine correct coordinate orientations and analyze data. Proficiency in various welding methods, including arc, TIG, and MIG, on materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum is required. This role will involve working closely with supervision to ensure quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy, while also allowing for independent problem-solving and creativity in the absence of designs and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, lay out and perform all fabrication and assembly operations necessary to build, alter, repair, and maintain complicated jigs and fixtures.
  • Work from complicated drawings and specifications to develop jigs or fixtures, determining material requirements and making necessary calculations.
  • Prepare sketches necessary to machine, weld or assemble various parts of tools.
  • Complete tools in specified locations, checking main tooling points, hinges, and other location lines.
  • Adjust control points to coordinate with master gauges.
  • Perform developmental work with own conception in absence of designs and specifications, reviewing progress with supervision.
  • Check and set production jigs and fixtures using master gauges and optical tooling for correct alignment, level, and location of tooling points.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, machine tools, and precision measuring instruments such as transits, levels, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial gauges, and sine bars.
  • Utilize the Laser Tracker and computer system to determine correct x, y, and z coordinate orientation and establish alignment or control points.
  • Use various welding methods such as arc, TIG, and MIG on different materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
  • Proficiency in advanced shop math and the use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Preferred experience in machining, fabrication, or related fields.
