We are seeking a Journeyman Electrician to perform maintenance, installation, and repair work on electrical and pneumatic equipment, systems, and components. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and functionality of electrical systems within the university's facilities. The work is performed under limited supervision, utilizing the tools and techniques of electrical technology. As a team leader and subject matter expert, the Journeyman Electrician will also be responsible for training apprentices and junior members of the Facilities team, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. The position involves a variety of tasks, including performing inspections and maintenance on electrical systems, reading and interpreting complex schematic and construction drawings, and following instructions provided by blueprints and work orders. The electrician will identify, analyze, diagnose, and resolve both routine and complex electrical equipment problems, adhering to all applicable safety standards and local codes. Effective communication with Facilities leadership and other trades is essential to promote efficiency and ensure that all team members are aligned in their efforts. In addition to hands-on work, the Journeyman Electrician will be responsible for inventory management, tracking supplies and equipment, and making decisions based on trade practices and the National Electrical Code. The role also includes planning and estimating materials and labor for demand work and construction projects, actively engaging Electrical Maintenance Workers in skills-based training, and recommending improvements to departmental electrical operations. The electrician is expected to perform work within reasonable timeframes, adhering to industry standards.
