About the position

The Junior Naval Electrical Engineer will work within a dynamic team of engineers and naval architects in Washington, DC, providing technical support for various ship design projects. The role involves individual contributions as well as collaboration with the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC). Responsibilities include electrical design, load analysis, and preparation of technical documents in accordance with marine design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering site visits and ship checks at Navy and Commercial Shipyards.
  • Conduct electrical analyses and generate 2D electrical design drawings for power systems and control systems modifications.
  • Perform electrical feasibility and trade-off studies for selecting electrical components such as generators and transformers.
  • Conduct preliminary checks of electrical drawings and collaborate with senior engineering staff to generate final technical products.
  • Review contractual specification requirements and research regulatory rules and commercial regulations.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), or equivalent training with an Associate's degree accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for complex technical issues.
  • Ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoints.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in electrical design and ship checks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, NAVISWORKS, and SKM Power Tools.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel (macros, VBA, etc).
  • Familiarity with Machinery Control Systems and PLC/HMI/Automation/Controls.
  • Shipboard and/or shipyard experience.
  • Participation in professional organizations (e.g., IEEE, SNAME).
