About the position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Lab and Research Technician 2 to join The Saucerman Laboratory. The technician will be responsible for managing laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring that all items are in good working order to facilitate ongoing research activities. In addition to conducting experiments, the technician will analyze data using specialized statistical software and compile results for publication. This role also includes assisting with the care and management of small lab animals, which may involve performing specific surgical procedures. The technician will be expected to train and supervise students or volunteers, providing them with guidance on laboratory methods and safety protocols. Collaboration is key in this role, as the technician will support the research team in developing new experimental strategies and techniques while coordinating with clinical and research staff on various technical duties. Maintaining detailed records of experiments and results is essential for this position, ensuring that all data is accurately documented and accessible for future reference. This role is a full-time, restricted position that is dependent upon project needs, availability of funding, and performance. Responsibilities

• Conduct experiments involving cardiac cells, including cell culture, biochemical assays, and microscopy.

Requirements

• Education: Associate's degree
• Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

• Knowledge of fundamentals of biochemistry and cell biology.
