About the position

The Laboratory Researcher II (Applied Conservation Biology) at Rutgers University is responsible for leading and participating in various applied conservation biology research projects. This role involves conducting lab-based molecular work, performing bioinformatics and statistical analyses, and collaborating with graduate students and state and federal wildlife agencies to advance conservation efforts. The researcher will also work closely with Dr. Maslo to develop new research directions and identify funding opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or participate in multiple applied conservation biology research projects.
  • Conduct lab-based molecular work including DNA metabarcoding, population genetics, and genomics.
  • Perform bioinformatics and statistical analyses of multiple datasets.
  • Collaborate with graduate students on various conservation-based projects.
  • Work closely with Dr. Maslo to develop new research directions.
  • Identify and apply for new funding opportunities related to applied conservation biology.
  • Interact with state and federal wildlife agencies to coordinate research activities and solidify partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or discipline, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Five (5) years of relevant professional research experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular ecology approaches, complex statistical analyses, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in ecology and evolution, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of bat ecology.
  • Rabies pre-exposure vaccination.
