About The Position

The Landfill Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the County landfill, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and managing staff involved in waste management activities. This role involves both technical and administrative duties, including equipment maintenance, budget management, and staff training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Specialized technical training in gasoline and diesel engine repair.
  • Considerable experience in repairing heavy and power-driven equipment.
  • Experience in landfill or construction and demolition waste management and operations.
  • Possession of Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification from SWANA.
  • Possession of an appropriate weighmaster license.
  • Possession of a class A commercial driver's license valid in North Carolina.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to landfill operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and supervise the operations of the landfill.
  • Implement and enforce landfill and waste reduction operating rules and regulations.
  • Repair, maintain, and operate heavy landfill equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain files and records related to landfill operations.
  • Train landfill employees on screening, classification, and processing of solid waste recyclables.
  • Evaluate staff performance and participate in hiring decisions.
  • Serve as the lead contact for compliance with EPA, NCDEQ, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Estimate costs of supplies, materials, and equipment for repairs and improvements.
  • Prepare and administer the annual division budget.
  • Monitor invoice coding and track spending.
  • Develop long-term strategies for receiving and marketing recyclable materials.
  • Oversee landfill expansions and closures.
  • Perform maintenance on gasoline and diesel powered equipment.
  • Research efficient methods of waste handling and operations.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $57,096.00 - $68,286.40 per year.
  • Full-time position with a standard work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with some Saturday hours required.
