About the position

This position performs landscape duties across all MPW facilities under limited supervision. Employees in this classification will perform skilled and semi-skilled duties and report to the Facility Supervisor. Responsibilities include maintaining the professional appearance of grounds, performing dirt work and grading, maintaining landscape sustainability, operating and maintaining irrigation systems, and using integrated pest management practices. The role also involves preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, operating heavy equipment, and assisting with facility duties as needed. The position requires communication with various stakeholders and may involve emergency response duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform landscape duties across all MPW facilities under limited supervision.
  • Cut, trim, edge, and blow off hard surfaces to ensure the professional appearance of grounds.
  • Perform dirt work/grading, planting, tree trimming, stormwater pond maintenance, fence line clearing, fence repair, and storm cleanup.
  • Maintain and support efforts towards landscape sustainability and ecological benefit.
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Use integrated pest management practices and nutrient management techniques under the supervision of a licensed applicator.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on tools and equipment, including small engine repair.
  • Operate heavy equipment including mowers, excavators, front end loaders, backhoes, skid steers, asphalt rollers, and man lifts.
  • Install and maintain plants in indoor environments.
  • Assist with facility duties as needed, particularly in the off-season.
  • Procure and purchase supplies and materials as instructed by the Facility Supervisor.
  • Complete various forms, reports, correspondence, and work orders.
  • Communicate with supervisors, employees, other departments, customers, and contractors to coordinate work activities.
  • Serve 'on-call' for emergency response as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • One (1) to two (2) years of previous experience and/or vocational/technical training in landscape maintenance.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
