About the position

The Laser Technician 2 position at Hanwha Aerospace USA involves performing critical laser machining operations and setups for both standard and non-standard customer orders. This role is essential in ensuring the quality and efficiency of laser operations within the Coatings Department, under the supervision of the Laser Supervisor or assigned Lead Person. The technician will work with various materials and equipment, contributing to the overall production process in a state-of-the-art aerospace facility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Laser parameters, procedures, and fixtures for new Laser operations.
  • Prepare metallurgical specimens to determine recast layer characteristics.
  • Perform dimensional layout and critical machine setups.
  • Operate all in-house Laser equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in technical tasks as required or assigned.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, attachments, and accessories onto machines.
  • Clean and prepare all detail materials for Laser processing.
  • Position and fasten work pieces onto holding fixtures.
  • Select predetermined settings specific to each Laser machine and individual job.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.
  • Maintain records and document in-process inspection data as required.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including steel and non-metallic.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform basic machine maintenance to maintain part quality and quantity standards.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Assist and instruct lower-level Laser Technicians with related operations as required.
  • Monitor the departmental activities of lower-level Laser Technicians and take corrective action as needed.
  • Report faulty or unusual conditions to the appropriate level of supervision.
  • Ensure that safety and housekeeping standards are met.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.

Requirements

  • Must be a 'US Person' as defined by US Government and able to work without restriction with ITAR related data.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
  • Basic reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and part specifications.
  • Knowledge of metal characteristics.
  • Knowledge of 5 axis laser is a plus.
  • Ability to set up and operate Laser equipment with appropriate fixtures and accessories.
  • Ability to use standard measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of 5 axis laser is a plus.
