About the position

The Lead CMM Programmer at GE Aviation will play a pivotal role in supporting the plant's Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) measurement needs. This position requires a strong leader who can manage program revision control and utilize their expertise to solve CMM-related problems. The Lead CMM Programmer will be responsible for developing and executing program objectives while managing CMM program schedules effectively. This role is essential in ensuring that the manufacturing efforts at the GE Aviation Wilmington facility are supported by accurate and reliable CMM programs and calibrations. In this position, the Lead CMM Programmer will develop and validate CMM programs and calibrations that are crucial for inspecting drawing and specification requirements. They will also be tasked with planning and specifying necessary CMM purchases, coordinating the activities of the CMM staff, and managing calibration responsibilities. The Lead CMM Programmer will oversee the measurement accuracy of all CMM measurement systems and conduct training for CMM inspection and programming as needed. Additionally, they will act as the plant expert on CMM measurements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards, including applicable ISO standards. The role also involves collaborating with the Quality team to drive inspection process improvements and implementing Lean efforts within manufacturing, focusing on quality enhancement. The Lead CMM Programmer will be expected to read and interpret drawings and quality control requirements using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, ensuring safe practices in compliance with governmental regulations. This position is critical for maintaining high-quality standards and improving overall manufacturing processes at GE Aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) programs and calibrations to support manufacturing efforts.
  • Plan and specify CMM purchases necessary for inspecting drawing and specification requirements.
  • Manage the activities of the entire CMM staff, including programming, calibration, and measurement audit support.
  • Plan and coordinate CMM area activities around program schedules, calibration, audit support, and software quality assurance controls.
  • Ensure measurement accuracy of all CMM measurement systems.
  • Conduct training for CMM inspection and programming as needed.
  • Act as the plant expert and interface regarding CMM measurements.
  • Collect and distribute compiled information to improve quality.
  • Administer the plant CMMs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and standards such as ISO standards.
  • Read and interpret drawings and quality control requirements using GD&T and sound metrology principles.
  • Work with the Quality team to drive inspection process improvements.
  • Drive Lean efforts within manufacturing focusing on quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering or quality.
  • 3 years of CMM programming experience including PC-DMIS, with experience in editing and controlling CMM program revisions for aviation hardware.
  • Strong organizational, analytic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams in a matrix environment with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and quality operations.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to coach, manage, change, and facilitate team performance.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and provide efficient solutions.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
