About the position

As a Lead Data Center Technician, you’ll take the lead as you collaborate with the Engineering, Raised Floor, and Central Plant teams. This includes installing and maintaining equipment, monitoring building systems, using team specific applications, responding to escalations, taking ownership of a major system, training team members, managing vendors, resolving issues, writing methods of procedure (MOPs), and driving continuous improvements in existing processes and procedures. Special projects and scheduling vendor activities may also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and maintaining equipment by working closely with the engineering team to ensure proper specification and installation.
  • Monitoring building systems using SCADA, ALC, and other applications to ensure efficient operation.
  • Developing proficiency in team specific applications and ensuring their proper maintenance.
  • Responding to escalations and acting as the first responder to major equipment and system issues.
  • Taking ownership of a major power or cooling system within the Data Center.
  • Training team members on equipment, systems, and safety procedures.
  • Managing relationships with vendors that supply and support electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Resolving electrical/mechanical system issues in collaboration with various teams.
  • Writing methods of procedure (MOPs) for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Driving improvements in existing processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of related experience.
  • Licensed Electrician or strong mechanical certifications/qualifications.
  • Working knowledge of data center mechanical equipment and its dependency on electrical systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Moderate to advanced PC skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to access all areas of the facility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master Electrician Certification preferred.
  • Industrial/Trade school courses preferred.
  • Electrical trade school degree preferred.
