About the position

Join our not-for-profit organization that has provided over 100 years of housing and services to seniors with a commitment to quality care and service in a Christian environment. As a Lead Food Service Assistant at St. John's Center in Kearney, NE, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our food service operations meet the highest standards of quality and safety. This part-time position involves working evening shifts, specifically from 12 PM to 8 PM, with a requirement to work every other weekend and holiday. You will be responsible for providing direction to food service staff, monitoring food temperatures, maintaining a clean serving area, preparing and serving food items, and ensuring compliance with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines. Your role will also include outstanding customer service and effective communication with patrons and co-workers. In this position, you will operate various kitchen equipment, including grills, beverage machines, and cash registers. You will need to demonstrate experience in the food industry and possess the ability to work independently when necessary. A strong understanding of food safety and sanitation processes is essential, as is the ability to be on your feet for the majority of the day and walk long distances. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for those who have at least two years of experience in food service and previous leadership experience. On-the-job training will be provided, and depending on the location, you may be required to complete a Diet Therapy Class and pass related exams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to food service staff according to quality standards.
  • Monitor and record proper temperature of food.
  • Set up and maintain a clean and sanitized serving area.
  • Prepare and serve food items.
  • Restock food areas as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment used in food service.
  • Receive payment for food and beverages using a computerized register.
  • Comply with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and effectively communicate with patrons and co-workers.
  • Establish effective working relationships with staff and patrons.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Minimum of two years experience in food service preferred, depending on location.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation processes.
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk long distances.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in the food industry.
  • Serv Safe certification may be required within a designated time frame.
