About the position

As a Lead Medical Technologist with HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, you will be part of an organization devoted to giving back to the community. The role involves collecting blood, performing tests, inputting patient information and test results into the computer, and assisting in other duties as directed by the laboratory supervisor/manager. You will be proficient in one of the following disciplines: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunohematology (Blood Bank).

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to schedule and provides coverage in assigned areas.
  • Appropriate use and inventory of reagents and supplies.
  • Assists in maintaining general cleanliness and safety of work area.
  • Addresses issues and solves problems effectively.
  • Performs venipuncture and capillary sticks on patients.
  • Troubleshoots minor instrument malfunctions.
  • Manages workload and resolves personnel issues.
  • Performs employee evaluations on time.
  • Follows protocols for checking and reporting critical values.
  • Maintains competency in designated technical areas.
  • Performs tests and reports results during computer downtime.
  • Documents QC per SOP.
  • Prioritizes test procedures and performs STAT tests timely.
  • Operates instruments and performs minor equipment maintenance.
  • Promotes teamwork and supports co-workers.
  • Properly identifies patient/specimens using two forms of ID.
  • Records equipment temperature checks.
  • Participates in proficiency and competency testing.

Requirements

  • Prefer one year of experience in one of the Laboratory Sciences.
  • Bachelor's Degree, or Associate Degree must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Lab Scientist must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
